Brain

EXPLORE research in the MCRI Neural Stem Cells Lab, led by Associate Professor Silvia Velasco, uses pluripotent stem cell-derived 3D models of the human brain to study and identify new therapeutic approaches for neurological disorders.

The Neural Stem Cell lab uses a complex model of the developing human brain in a dish, to study the neurobiology behind paediatric brain diseases. By identifying target cell types, molecular mechanisms and specific functional abnormalities, the research will yield novel insights into the pathogenesis of neurological disorders and will contribute to develop new therapeutic strategies for these conditions, for which no effective treatment is currently available.
